The Way of the Burning Heart - Luke 24:13-33
The apostles were in hiding for fear that they might be the next ones crucified. They remained sealed in trepidation even after Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James reported seeing the tomb empty and Jesus resurrected. Even the corroboration of the empty tomb by Peter and John proved too little to convince them or the others that Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day as He had prophesied. Not all remained hidden in the room, though. As Luke continues his travel theme, at least two disciples left on a journey out of the city to the town of Emmaus that day. It is a journey that, in some figurative sense, most people take as they walk the ways of life while pondering the reality of the empty tomb.
